More Neopets Drawings January 16, 2008
2 of the petpets, the yellow shit was drawn, scanned and coloured, while the other was done rightaway onto the computer.
The final was quite terrible, so I’m submitting the sketch I scanned in. This was a uni called Ida if I’m not wrong.
Another instance where the sketch turns out better than the final (this is not even complete anyway). This is when I started practising the shading technique I am doing now, which is using opacity instead of smudge like I used to.
Cel shading, something I haven’t been doing for a really long while already…
Neopets – Miaomiao Blogskin January 15, 2008
Unlike the previosu one, this was a simple scrolling skin. My main intention were to make it pretty to look at, nothing too complicated nor impressive about this one.
Some more illustrations of my red xweetok, just because I can. The concept behind MM is pretty much The Pet That Everyone Is Having, the typical one with the wings and everything in the world that you think is original but you will realise soon that your character is exactly same as the next one. It’s kind of shameless how on Neopets everyone designs their pet to be perfect, but it was very fun drawing my pet. Now you know what sort of a geek I become with nothing to do in the holidays.
The picture is bleh, but what I liked doing was the background. It was something that Endling was playing around with on his works and it looked great somehow. Not overdone like what I did here, but just enough to set a mood.
Won a beauty contest with this! I tell you, Neopets artists are damn loser can the Xweetok category is HUGE and they were all so noob! enjoyed working with the hair and all the highlights, technique is a bit obsolete by now but nevertheless, Gold!
Neopets – Humphrey Petpage Design January 15, 2008
Plan of the webpage. Will be a simple page with 4 boxes for content. As to why the heck I have a rainbow elephante called humphrey… that’s a story for another day.
I really enjoyed making this skin because it was so personalised, I had everything worked out and I knew who I was designing this for. Though some things could have been better polished, it’s still alright.
Neopets – Sharioi January 12, 2008
During my free time I play neopets like a childish idiot. And after a while I begin to realise the importance of artists in the community of neopets. I have traded artworks with around 10 people, and if I may say so, they don’t have half the aesthetic ability as half an AEP-er. Usually in Neopets, if you can scan in something, YOU’RE AN ARTIST! Flawed logic yeah, but small talent pool anyway. But since I need to hold on to my Photoshop skills anyway, I thought I might as well participate in some of those Art Trades.
It is a very simple way of making you way as an artist in neopets; You draw to please. Who wants a red lupe when they can have a purple one with black tail tips, pink fur and probably a dozen other unique traits? So the point of the person drawing is: To make that purple, black, pink superpet as pretty as it can be.
I even added mascara. \o/
NYSL Investiture Logo January 12, 2008
PASSItON is the catchphrase of NYSC investiture 2008, where it encompasses “Passion” and “Pass it on”, two qualities that every councillor should have within their hearts.
I was asked by The Great Jingying to design the logo for Invest this year again, probably owing to the fact that I have prior experience with the council’s adoration of mushy catchphrases. However this time it’s different, because I’m supposed to do the design all the way to the drawing, rather than last year, only doing the photoshopping for jingying’s design into a presentable format. Had lots of fun (:
Requirements: Red and Gold
I wanted the logo to look energetic, fresh and essentially, “fun”. My first problem was the catchphrase itself. PASSItON didn’t look like “passion” or “pass it on” in any language. It looked like, well, “passiton”. My solution to that was to make the T smaller than the rest of the letters, but because the “it” is still vital to the second meaning, I changed the colour to gold (read: yellow).
Two trial versions
Graduation Magazine 2007 January 12, 2008
HERE is the editted one.
The theme was aurora borealis, you know, that north pole spectacular lights.
Obviously right now it looks messy and ridiculously unprofessional and there is this entire list of things I Could Have Done to make it much nicer, like… used a tablet on a computer which did not lag, not have Gaussian blurred some swirls, made it tidier, etc. I need a Wacom.

Let’s Get The Ball Rolling! January 7, 2008
In The December Holidays,
I went to Gold Coast, Australia. It was really a beautiful place, much in a different sense from the idealistic gold sands, caressing sun and soft waves actually. It had these waves which crawled up the sand after crashing, and that pressed and rushed against your feet as they slid back into the sea. Footprints left drew little angles in the receding water. We went out one morning to see the sunrise, this reddish blob that became gold, then too bright to look at.
On a spur of the moment I stuck my bottle into the sand cap down (needless to say that bottle never touched any part of my face thereafter) and set my camera on auto-timed capture. Then I ran out into the waves and did something only stupid tourists on a spur of the moment ever do: jump like an idiot waiting for the shutter to go off.
Worth the effort of looking like a headless chicken? See for yourself.
I like the colour of the sunrise. If I had to describe it in one word, here it is: delicious. Especially where the wave slides off the shore and there’s a mirror-like quality to the sand. Image is cropped so as to put myself and the sun at the same level. Haha, more human than human
