Graduation Magazine Design August 5, 2008
Self explanatory. It’s changed since then, but not much. It was one of those things I procrastinated till the last few days. Doing it for 4/13 was just… a mix of emotions and to-dos, like I can never do enough to express how wonderful my class is. Which other bunch of people wholeheartedly volunteer to stay in a stuffy haunted house, or manage to top the entire school twice for Funfair?

Save-n ‘08 Design Work July 26, 2008
A piece done for message cards. Have been out of touch with Photoshop, but somehow despite the absence I found it easier to work with. I was aiming for a semi-realistic, somewhat dreamlike-fuzzy look. Apparently they sold well, so I’m rather satisfied. I cannot help but suddenly realise I really love working digitally.
This is the design for the logo… I was given apple, and a lot of colours. Pretty much amateur shit, but it worked fine because it brightened up all the documents and letterheads.
Some more documents I had to make/design/scrap out. The 4 apples in the first picture were made by Lim Min, 4/13 and I think they’re bloody cute.

I don’t claim credit for the website, I only did the pages and the actual website was designed by Ho Zimin, 4/13.
UK Literary Trip Handbook May 7, 2008
First version and the final one that was printed. Personally I liked the first one more because it was cuter but the final made it more personal to NY. Below are some illustrations I created because the pages were freaking boring. If anyone saw these booklets, I played a part in designing the layout too
I was thinking along the lines of London and Travel and trying to create clipart-like illustrations. Did anyone go to UK? I want a copy of the booklet lorh but I never get ):
GRACES LOGO February 5, 2008
I think birds are the prettiest, most elegant creatures ever. Don’t you ever wonder how perfectly they must be structured to fly, much less glide through the air so smoothly? I thought along the line of birds, particularly with their cliche little wings and feathers. I came up with some: a peacock, a swan, a bird of paradise and hummingbirds (rejected! too small) The idea is of the ugly duckling story, the transformations of these birds from fugly hatchlings to fully poised birds. I also thought about the butterfly, the gross caterpillar turning into a butterfly.
Then I started making a few sketchings, and realised that honestly, swans ALWAYS LOOK THE SAME. they always look like a number “2″ in some horrific font face. And then I sketched on more… And fell in love with the peacock. If you chopped off the top half of a peacock, it’ll look like a colourful fat bird. But once you notice what’s behind it, it becomes… a colourful and flamboyantly bombastically beautiful thingy. So I went on with the peacock. The standing position, and the perched position.
Then I deviated a little into the actual things that come with Graces. The first mental imagery of graces is a gown, followed by makeup, heels (I always spell them as “hells”. I think it reflects them a bit more accurately anyway), some funky hair, air-con, good food, disco balls, little cacti-resembling animals, Weining in a gown. So I took the gown idea.
Combining the tail of the peacock into a gown came to me during CHINESE LESSONS! (I am so sorry) I liked the idea, so I went home and nerdishly incorporated both elements on photoshop. Looking a bit plain, so I added the swirls, like a little mixing pot of dunno-what-ness.
And then I have no fonts so I anyhow choose.

Neopets – Humphrey Petpage Design January 15, 2008
Plan of the webpage. Will be a simple page with 4 boxes for content. As to why the heck I have a rainbow elephante called humphrey… that’s a story for another day.
I really enjoyed making this skin because it was so personalised, I had everything worked out and I knew who I was designing this for. Though some things could have been better polished, it’s still alright.
NYSL Investiture Logo January 12, 2008
PASSItON is the catchphrase of NYSC investiture 2008, where it encompasses “Passion” and “Pass it on”, two qualities that every councillor should have within their hearts.
I was asked by The Great Jingying to design the logo for Invest this year again, probably owing to the fact that I have prior experience with the council’s adoration of mushy catchphrases. However this time it’s different, because I’m supposed to do the design all the way to the drawing, rather than last year, only doing the photoshopping for jingying’s design into a presentable format. Had lots of fun (:
Requirements: Red and Gold
I wanted the logo to look energetic, fresh and essentially, “fun”. My first problem was the catchphrase itself. PASSItON didn’t look like “passion” or “pass it on” in any language. It looked like, well, “passiton”. My solution to that was to make the T smaller than the rest of the letters, but because the “it” is still vital to the second meaning, I changed the colour to gold (read: yellow).
